Computer crimes that occur while you watch the World Cup

Non-consensual transactions over the Internet, theft of information and virtual frauds increased during football matches during the Russia 2018 World Cup.

This was revealed by an analysis carried out by the cybersecurity company Adalid, ensuring that this type of digital crime has intensified by 35 percent during the sporting event.

Axel Díaz, Adalid's computer security expert, warned that the most frequent cybercrimes are the sending of 'malware' as Trojans, those programs that are apparently legitimate but in reality are false and give the attacker remote access to the infected computer.

"We have perceived that there are many twin pages, that is, they are presented as legitimate, but in reality they are false, mostly pages that offer links to see the repetition of the goals, but in reality they steal information and banking data, "said the expert.

Díaz also reported that a large number of scams are being presented through WhatsApp. "Through this messaging application, a number of memes, containing malicious programs, are sent in. We have also detected that these images are accompanied by links that encourage us to see the goals, but in reality, what they are looking for is stealing sensitive data from the victims" he added.

The specialist also said that web pages that promise links that ensure the retransmission of the matches have been shown; in this case the victims are the countries that dispute the parties.

"We have seen that cyber attacks are being carried out from Asia and Africa, the most attacked continent is Europe, in Colombia there are also damages and this is serious because people do not take care of their teams with security programs," Diaz said.

So, as you watch your favorite team, consider the following suggestions:

-Do not forget to disconnect the wifi network if you are not using it.

-Do not open memes or messages by whatsApp of unknown numbers.

-Do not access suspicious messages or links with messages such as "watch the game live free."

-If you want to see replays of plays go directly to a recognized web page.

-Make sure that the URLs you access to get match information start like this: https, ending in s, indicating that you are on a secure page.

In case of being infected, call your bank immediately, block your accounts and notify the incident to the virtual CAI of the National Police. If your mail is involved, immediately change your security codes and questions.

"A signal that may indicate that your device has been compromised, is that it presents unnecessary overheating," said Adalid's specialist.
